RYA Yachtmaster

The high level of the exam where the examiner will assess your skippering skills has won it high recognition and extraordinary feedback.

In reality it is hard to imagine taking the exam without knowing the pre-requisites and English terminolgy first. Yachtmaster's candidates are offered a 6-day theoretical course and 5 days of practical skills on yacht to get ready for the exam. 

Certificates are recognized worldwide and constitute a base for employment in international yachting. 

Requirements:

RYA Yachtmaster Coastal

• 30 days at sea including 2 as a skipper.
• 800 nautical miles including 12 hours by night.
• At least half of the qualifying sea time in tidal waters (for holders of Coastal Skipper Certicifate it would be 20 days, 2 days as a skipper, 400Nm and 12 hours overnight).
• Qualifying sea time completed in the last 10 years.
• SRC certificate or higher.
• Valid first aid certicifate e.g. STCW.

RYA Yachtmaster Offshore:

• 50 days at sea including 5 as a skipper.
• 2,500 nautical miles including at least 5 passages over 60Nm long with at least 2 days as a skipper and 2 overnight passages.
• At least half the qualifying time should be covered in tidal waters.
• Qualifying sea time completed in the last 10 years.
• SRC certificate or higher.
• Valid first aid certicifate e.g. STCW.
• During theoretical course we prepare candidates for advanced navigation in tidal waters, planning the route, meteorology, right of way. In addition, working on excellent RYA materials gives the opportunity to acquire English terminology and revise. 

During practical course we work on all aspects required at RYA Yachmaster exams: maneuvering, planning the route, navigation, challenges of offshore sailing at few days passages, safety awareness, emergency situations, preparing a yacht and crew etc. 

Practical course and the exam are organized on Delphia 37 which is comfortable, safe and modernly equipped - for offshore sailing and at the same small enough to maneuver under sail. 

Course programme:

• maneuvering exercises,
• planning the route,
• navigation,
• challenges of offshore sailing at few days passages: meteorology, safety, emergency situations, preparing a yacht and crew etc. 

The RYA examiner from Great Britain runs the exam. Candidates need to prove their skills in self-reliant yacht handling, planning and commanding in safe and nice atmosphere. Proper maneuvering under sail and power, diligent navigation and good command on board are all equally important. The exam lasts all day and finishes after dark. The results are discussed individually after the exam. 

The exam is taken is small groups, of 2-3 candidates.
